More information

On the morning of 17 September at 08.00 h. German time (06.40 h. Mid-European time), Pfc. Henry Morgan and his comrades took a break near the house of the family Diederen, Reinaldstraat 15, where they are fairly protected. However, a German cannon, placed in the garden of Villa Leeuwenhorst on the Nieuweweg 15, fired and hit a pilar of the Villa Reinalda, next to the house where the group was resting. A shrapnel hit Pfc Morgan in the chest. Badly wounded, he tried to search shelter in the house but died in the living room. Mss Diederen had put a rosary in his hands.

His wife gave birth to their third daughter on 25 September 1944.

He was first buried at the American Cemetery at Fosse, Belgium. When this cemetery was cleared, he was transferred to Henri-Chapelle on 8 August 1948. He was reburied there on 19 November 1948 at the request of his wife.

In the 119th Infantry Regiment’s Morning Report of 18 September, he is mistakenly noted as KIA on 16 September 1944.
