Pfc Delroy L. Kern enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 7 June 1943. A graduate of Franklin Independent High School in 1941 Lehighton High School in 1942, he was employed by the Donald Eckman lumber yard before his induction. He was reported slightly wounded in action October 14 in Bardenberg, Germany and died of his wounds the next day. He was sent to New Cumberland and then to Camp Haan, California where he received training with an anti-aircraft unit. He was then transferred to Carson, Colorado and in August went overseas and landed in England. He saw action in Belgium and France.
