Pfc Richard Larock was employed by the Hustad Brothers contractor firm in Helena. He married Violet Albright on 3 October 1936.

He enlisted on 7 February 1944 and trained at Camp Croft, South Carolina and was sent overseas in July 1944.

On 8 October 1944 he was caught on film, briefly unwinding at the piano in an abandoned German beer hall in Übach, north of Aachen. Two days later, Richard Larock was killed during the fierce fighting at the West Wall on the Dutch-German border.

At the time of his dead, his brother Frederick was training to become a paratrooper at Camp Mackall, North Carolina and his brother Louis was stationed in Farragut, Idaho as a seaman 2nd Class.
