Pfc Francis W. Roskoski Sr. graduated from Central High School in 1937 and was employed as a jig maker for North American Aviation Corporation in Inglewood, California.

He enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 7 July 1944 and was sent overseas in December 1944.
