Edwin C. Welker attended college.

He joined the Regular Army in Lenoir, North Carolina on 29 June 1939.

Edwin Welker got accidentily killed by a fellow soldier who was on guard on the night of 10 December 1944 in the vicinity of Lutzkampen, Germany on the Belgian-German border. The sergeant was checking the outpost line when a replacement on sentry duty shot him.
