More information

Pfc Michael Loncar graduated from Weir High School and attended Bethany and West Liberty College. He worked in a steel mill.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve 31 on July 1942 in Wheeling, West Virginia.

After the company had to withdraw from the town, his comrades did not see him. American Graves Registration Command personnel surveyed the area during the early 1950s and recovered and identified some remains of American soldiers. However, large sections of the forest remained heavily mined, curtailing the search in many areas. Pfc Loncar's remains have not been identified among those recovered.

He was officially declared death one day and one year after he was reported missing in action.
