Pvt Harry M. Smith was employed by the Mesta Machine Company before he enlisted at Fort MacArthur, California on 14 January 1944. He was sent overseas in Fabruary 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium.
