T/5 Robert A. Neikirk graduated from the Hagerstown High School in the class of 1933.

He played the saxophone as well as clarinet in different dance bands and was called "Hagerstown's best known dance band members".

He enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 1 October 1941.
