He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For gallantry in action while serving with the 320th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in action near ****, Belgium, on 14 January 1945. At the head of his platoon, leading it in an attack against well entrenched enemy, Lt Wade inspiringly encouraged his men forward, while himself constantly exposed to enemy fire. Suddenly, the intensity of the enemy fire increased, and Lt Wade voluntarily exposed himself to the enemy fire in order to ensure the orderly withdrawal with a minimum of danger to his men. Although he succeeded in enabling his men to reach safety, Lt Wade was killed by enemy fire while so engaged. His courage, consideration for the welfare of his men, and his disregard for personal safety, are in accord with the military traditions of the United States.
