T/Sgt Anthony C. Vail Jr. attended high school for three years and was a manager before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Newark, New Jersey on 18 June 1942.He died in a hospital in Luxembourg from the effects of artillery shell fragments in his abdomen, which he received during action on 3 January 1945.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.
He is remembered at the Rural Hill Cemetery in Whitehouse, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
