Pvt Hugh L. Rougemont was a carpenter before he enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 3 December 1943. He was sent overseas in July 1944.His company was in the assault against the enemy lines in the Grémecey Forest and their mission was to retake the woods. Pvt Rougemont was performing his duties as a rifleman. Machine gun and rifle fire was encountered and he was struck by a bullet from a machine gun and killed instantly.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemtery in Andilly, France.
