Pvt Chester A. Carpenter worked at the Fenton Astoria Glass Company before he enlisted in Clarksburg, West Virginia on 19 November 1943.

He died from the blast of an artillery shell.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.

He is remembered at the Harmar Cemetery in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio.
