2nd Lt Robert J. Kuehn attended St. Mary's School and Rhinelander High School. He graduated with the class of 1936 and then enrolled in St Norbert's College.

He took an active part in military training courses following his graduation in the spring of 1943. He was employed as an assistant in the first aid room at the L.D. Smith Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay and went into active duty in June 1943. He was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
