Pvt Henry W. Zygaj attended high school for four years and was employed at the National Biscuit Company before he enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 21 January 1943.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his bladder and femur.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
