Sgt Edward L. Pencina attended Mason City Grade and High School and was employed at the Hutchinson Ice Cream Company before he enlisted on 31 December 1941. He was sent overseas in April 1944.He died on 14 September 1944 in France as a result of wounds received in action on 13 September 1944.
He is remembered at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
