S/Sgt David E. Palmer joined the Regular Army on 16 February 1939.

His brother 1st Lt Harland R. Palmer was KIA in New Guinea on 11 November 1943 as a member of the 321st Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group.

At the time of his death, the 10th Infantry Regiment was engaged in the vicinity of Hoscheid- Berdorf.
