Pvt Woodrow W. Smith enlisted at Ft. G. Meade, Maryland on 3 January 1944.

He was a printer at the Fredericks Post before he enlisted.

His friend Leo H. Ward, who was in the same company, was KIA on 11 september 1944 and is also buried in Lorraine Cemetery Plot C Row 22 Grave 94.

He was first buried in Limey Cemetery, Limey France.

Pvt. Woodrow W. Smith was experienced in soldiering prior to his induction, with 3 years of Regular Army and 2 years with the National Guard and one year of training with the State Guard.
