1st Lt Fred E. Hall graduated from Southport High School and worked for the Crescent Paper Company.

He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 18 June 1942. Before his overseas assignment he was an infantry instructor at Fort McClellan, Alabama; Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Arkansas and Camp McCoy in Wisconsin.

He was first buried at the temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.
