S/Sgt Gerald H. Shrider enlisted in the Regular Army in Columbus Ohio on 22 October 1940.

He worked on a farm before he enlisted.

His brother Clarence was KIA on 15 April 1944 near Rome, Italy. He is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Italy.
