PFC Lawrence E. Holderbaum was a truck dirver before he enlisted on 27 January 1944 and was sent overseas on 27 June 1944.He was reported seriously wounded in action in France on 12 August 1944. He suffered injuries to his right shoulder and was hospitalized in England for two months.
He returned to active duty on 14 October 1944 and was awareded the Purple Heart Medal for this wound.
His brother Sgt Donald Holderbaum served with the Quartermaster Corps in England and Cpl. Harry J. Holderbaum with the engineers in Italy. Als his brother Francis served but was already honorably discharged from the Army.
