Sgt Walter E. Wendlandt graduated from St. Paul's High School and was a manager of the Green Border Store.

Sgt Wendlandt died in a field hospital after begin seriously wounded in action two days before.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium.
