Sgt Edward R. Chrisman attended high school for two years and was employed by the General Electric Company.

He enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 28 November 1942. He was sent overseas in April 1944.

He was reported wounded in action on 10 August 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart a first time.
