Pvt Bernard Fitzsimmons was born in Boston in 1925. At an early age he moved with his family to Woburn where he attended Woburn Public Schools. He graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1942 and from the time of his graduation until his enlistment in the Army on 22 May 1944, he was employed at the Raytheon Manufacturing Company in Waltham.

He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 22 May 1944. He was a sales clerk before he enlisted.

His remains were found in Kleinhau and initially registered as Unknown X-5296. He was evacuated to Ardennes Cemetery and could be identified at the identification center.
