2nd Lt William C. Warfield graduated from Allegany High School and attended college for four years. He was employed as a horticulturalist at W. Atlee Burpee & Co.Hed enlisted as a private in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 28 September 1942.
He was seriously wounded and died the same day.
According to an investigation report his body was found in the woods near Grosshau on top of the ground, in a mattress cover with one identification tag pinned to it. His skull was crushed and he was probably killed by artillery fire. He was found be a German civilian who was working in the woods in January 1947.
His remains were evacuated to Ardennes Cemetery for definitive identification. There he was buried in a temporary grave on 27 March 1947.
He was disinterred on 24 November 1948 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 17 December 1948. He was given his final resting place in July 1949.
