Pvt Shirley L. Riggins was employed at Rex Manufacturing Company in Connersville.

He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 26 April 1944 and was sent overseas in November 1944.

He was taken prisoner of war and was killed during an Allied bombing raid on Wittilch-Land, Germany. He was initially buried at the municipal cemetery of this town.
