Pvt Horace W. Berner attended high school for one year and was a foreman.

He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison on 11 Ocotber 1943.

He was reported wounded in action from artillery shell fragments in August 1944. For these wounds he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
