William Dierauer enlisted in Manchester, New Hampshire on 10 November 1942. He was sent overseas in May 1943 and first served as an instructor England.He was killed by shell fragments in his legs
He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 14 December 1944. After being disinterred on 15 October 1947, he was given his final resting place on 27 July 1948.
