S/Sgt Ernest R. Knoll attended St. Ambrose High School and was employed at the Freuhauf Trailer Company before he enlisted in Detroit, Michigan on 15 April 1941. He was sent overseas in July 1944.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
