1st Lt Philip S. Snyder graduated from Cromwell High School and attended Purdue University for one year. He was an insurance salesman before he enlisted at Fort Wayne, Indiana on 7 April 1941.

He was wounded in France on 3 July 1944 which earned him his first Purple Heart. He returned to duty on 21 August 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.

Lt Snyder is remembered at the Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, Noble County, Indiana.

His brother T/Sgt Clifford J. Snyder is buried at Manila American Cemetery, The Philippines.
