Pfc David B. Todd enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 7 October 1943. He attended high school for 4 years. During his time at Huntington School for Boys he won a number of academic awards in subjects as diverse as French, Chemistry and History. Each year he earned a scholarship medal. He was a member of the tennis team and the manager of the track team. During his junior year he was awarded the "Harvard Prize" book, given to the outstanding member of the class. During his senior year, he was the editor of the school publication. When he graduated from school in June of 1942, he was the highest ranking student in the class. He was one of the only four members of his senior class to be elected to the Cum Laude Society. He went on to attend Darmouth University. However, that only lasted for a year since he entered the service.

His brother Charles N. Todd, is buried at Margraten Cemetery.
