More information

Pvt Jay A. Young graduated from Selingsgrove High School in 1929 and was a retail manager at the Weis supermarket in Selinsgrove.

He enlisted in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 27 March 1944 and was detailed to Camp Blanding, Florida. His storekeeper ability won him quick advancement to the rank of Supply Sergeant. He was assigned to Fort George Meade and then embarked overseas, landing in France in September 1944. A surplus of Supply Sergeants resulted in his reduction to the rank of private and transfer to the infantry.

Four other sons of the family served during the war.
