S/Sgt Valentine J. Maciag graduated from Garfield High School in June 1943.

He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 3 May 1943 and trained at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

He was wounded in action on 23 November 1944 from shrapnel. After recovering in a hospital in England, he rejoined his unit.
