Pvt Maurice G. Holstad enlisted at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 28 March 1944. He attended high school for 1 year and was a barber before he enlisted.
His mother died when he was less than 2 years old and he was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Holstad of Northwood. His father died about 25 years ago.
