More information

Pfc Jarrett E. Cunningham enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 13 September 1943. He was a musician before he enlisted and a well-known Strother field drummer. While at Strother field, Jarrett “Meatball” Cunningham was familiar to both townspeople and field personnel as the drummer with the 683rd Army Air Force band. He joined the band shortly after the field opened and was sent to the infantry December 1944, when the band was discontinued. He spent most of his last furlough in Winfield during February and was sent overseas shortly thereafter.
He has been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Presidential Citation.
