More information
Pfc Paul W. Conrad enlisted at Camp Lee, Virginia on 4 February 1942.During his service, his wife requested a divorce, which, according to his mother, he was happy to grant. It is not clear that the divorce had already been arranged when he died. Nevertheless, his mother was considered his closest relative to decide where he would be permanently buried. At that time it was apparently not possible to find out his wife's address.
Pfc Conrad was killed by small arms fire in the legs.
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium on 16 September 1944. He was given his final resting place at Henri-Chapelle on 5 April 1949.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for gallantry in action in connection with combat operations against the enemy.
