Pfc Vance R. Mc Bane Jr. attended high school for 4 years and was employed in a drug store in Salem.

He first served with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

He enlisted in Akron, Ohio on 15 August 1942 and completed training with the replacement unit course at the 20th Ferrying group, Air Transport Command in Nashville, Tennessee. He had been overseas since February 1945.

He is remembered at the Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio.
