More information

Cpl Edward F. Michalski enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 9 January 1941.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his action on 18 July 1944. The citation cited: While advancing under a heavy artillery barrage, Cpl Edward F. Michalski and three other men saw a truck and trailer loaded with ammunition burning fiercely and exploding periodically, near a half-track vehicle loaded with ammunition. Running to the half-track the men succeeded in pushing to vehicle to a place of safety. Although the half-track was struck by shrapnel and the men's clothing had been set afire in several places by particles of phosphorus from mortar shells, they immediately unloaded the ammunition and stored it in an area of comparative safety.
