More information
Fred Trombley was adopted by George and Georgina Trombley. He joined the Regular Army in Boston, Massachusetts on 30 July 1940. He served in the Asiatic and Southwest Pacific theaters and six months in North Africa and Italy before his unit was sent to Northern Europe.
On 10 December 1944, when the company had reached its objective and was securing its positions, Sgt Trombely observed a wounded soldier in the distance. He, together with the company aid man, set out to render first aid and, if possible, bring the wounded soldier to the nearest aid station. It was during this action that Sgt Trombley was instantly killed by an enemy shell.
