Kenneth A. Marx attended high school for one year and he worked on a farm before he enlisted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 18 March 1941.
He arrived in France in July 1944 and was sent to his unit as a replacement. The 9th Infantry Division was on a re-fit and rest when S/Sgt Marx joined them. His combat duty began with the participation in the St. Lo breakthrough.
