Pvt Edward L. Phillips Jr. worked in transportation before he enlisted on 12 August 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.Pvt Phillips was taken prisoner of war in the vicinity of Schlausenbach, Germany on 16 December 1944.
He died in the POW Hospital at Wahren-Leipzig. Investigation on 14 July 1948 revealed that according to cemetery records he was interred in the East Cemetery at Leipzig-Pegau on 17 April 1945 and disinterred by an American Search and Recovery Team on 29 June 1945. Attempts to associate unknowns recovered from the location, were all negative.
