Pfc Charles A. Lubke attended Elston High School.He enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana, on 31 January 1944.
Pfc Lubke distinguished himself by an heroic achievement on 19 December 1944 by volunteering to participate in a motorized patrol near Halenfield, Germany. Through this unselfish deed he prevented an enemy ambush and saved the lives of many of his comrades. For this action he was awarded the Bronze Star posthumously. He died in the POW camp Stalag 4B.
