1st Lt Emmett I. Harman Jr. graduated from Fait Park High School and worked for the Arkansas Fuel Oil Company.

He enlisted in Camp Livingston, Louisiana on 3 June 1942. He was commissioned in January 1943 and was sent overseas in October 1944.

According to Lt Lewis Walker Lt. Harman was killed when aiding seriously wounded S/Sgt Gerald D. Meadows to safety. He can still see Harman standing erect, observing and correcting fire, and then ordering the withdrawal of his men. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. for this action

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.

He was the father of a baby daughter he never met.

His brother, Lt David C. Harman, is buried at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial of Epinal.

His brother Frederick served with the U.S. Army Air Forces.
