M/Sgt David C. Harman graduated from Fair Park High School and was a manager of the Auto Hotel.He volunteered for the U.S. Army in Jacksonville AAF, Florida on 10 March 1942. He trained at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was sent overseas in September 1943.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal. The citation cited: On 6 June 1944, Sgt Harman was dropped by parachute about 12 miles west of Carentan, France. He immediately organized a group of signal personnel into a tactical group and functioned as its leader. While on route to rejoin his division, his group was pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Without regard for his safety, he attacked the enemy postion with hand grenades, disorganized the enemy and allowed his group to withdraw around the flank of the enemy position.
His brother, Lt Emmett I. Harman Jr., is buried at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial of Henri-Chapelle.
His brother Frederick served with the U.S. Army Air Forces.
