Pfc Warren P. Grunert graduated from Carleton College in 1943 where he was a member of the track team and was student coach of the cross-county team in his senior year. In his junior year he was president of his class and was chairman of the Pep Fest Committee of Homecoming. He was a chapel monitor and president of the Natural History Club in 1942-1943 and took his major work in the department of Geology.

Pfc Grunertvolunteered for the paratroopers in October 1943.

Pfc Grunert was killed when he stepped on a landmine.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek, The Netherlands.
