1st Lt Richard C. Diamon graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1943 and was an intern at the Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia.He enlisted on 14 January 1944 and was assigned to Northington General Hospital in Tuscaloosa.
He was taken prisoner on 16 December 1944 in the vicinity of Sankt-Vith, Belgium.
He was being transferred from Stalag Xii-A to Stalag IX-B when the railroad box cars, in which the prisoners were held was strafed by Allied airplanes.
