More information

Sgt Donald J. Giffey graduated from Ripon High School in 1933.

He enlisted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 19 March 1941.

He was taken prisoner in the vicinity of Schlausenbach, Germany on 16 December 1944 and held at POW Camp Stalag III-B.

According to documents of the Polizei-Abteilung Duderstadt, dated 28 April 1949, Sgt. Giffey died in the community hospital of Duderstadt, Germany and was initially buried at the cemetery of this town. Taking into account the information in which camp he was held prisoner of war, it is not clear, based on the information currently available, how and when he would have ended up in this hospital. Further research on this is needed as soon as other documents can be found.
