Pfc Elbert L. Knapp enlisted in the Army on 16 March 1944 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He noted that he was employed as a Foremen in manufacturing.

He was a graduate of Hemlock High School and during his school years was active in all kind of sports.

On 10 August 1935, he was married to Dolores Gallagher.

Pfc Knapp went overseas in 1944, in action before the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded on 4 December 1944. He died in a hospital on 14 December 1944.
