Pvt James M. Brannan attended high school for 3 years. He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 31 May 1944.

He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 17 December 1944. He was disinterred on 21 October 1947 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 27 October 1947. He was given his final restin place on 20 Jnue 1949.
