Pfc Paul R. Hester attended Groton Central School and was employed by the Assembly Inspection Department in Groton.

He enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 7 January 1943. He trained at Camp Blanding, Florida and Camp Polk, Louisiana.

He went overseas in September 1944, and shortly thereafter went into battle.
