Pvt John L. Hand worked as a sales clerk before he enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 25 November 1942. HHis nickname was Happy because he always had a grin on his face.
Both of his brothers joined the Army. At the time of his death, they were fighting in the South Pacific.
